Select Magazines was formed by Grant Copley and commenced operations in 1983 with the purpose of distributing magazines through supermarkets. During the next 6 years, as an ancillary to the core business, Select also sought and obtained over 30 licences for the sale and marketing of collectable stickers and albums in Australia and New Zealand.

In 1989, Grant Copley sold the magazine distribution business to concentrate exclusively on the expansion of stickers and later on collector cards. Grant was joined by Lynn Marks and Select as we know it today was formed under the banner of Select Australia Pty. Ltd.
